Hi all, Happy springtime! I have a few new updates to share below. Feel free to reach out at any time with questions. Saturday April 13th: the Melrose Meanderers go Hiking I’m excited to share that I’ve worked with Friends of the Fells to arrange a hike!
On April 13th we’ll meet at the end of Goodyear Ave in Ward 5 at 10am and go on a guided hike for 1.5 hours at a slow and steady pace. Please come join us to enjoy time in the beautiful Fells in our backyard and meet your neighbors! You can get full details and reserve a FREE spot on the hike here. Please RSVP early to help with our planning.
I also have yard signs available to advertise the hike, and need more yards to host them. I’d like to spread these signs across Ward 5 leading up to the hike to build awareness and spark a good turnout. Please let me know if you can host one of these signs in your yard!
Update on Ceasefire Resolution
The last time that I sent an update, the City Council was about to vote on A Resolution In Support of an Enduring Ceasefire in Gaza. Members of the public shared 80+ emails and 2 hours of public comment prior to the council’s own discussion. I was impressed throughout public comment with the thoughtfulness and care expressed by so many Melrosians, and the way that everyone was able to clearly communicate and listen to each other speak on such a charged topic. The resolution passed with 6 Yes votes, 0 No votes, and 5 others (1 Abstain, 2 Present, 2 Absent). I voted for the resolution along with Councilors Maya Jamaleddine, Devin Romanul, Ryan Williams, Manjula Karamcheti, and Leila Migliorelli. Updates from the Department of Public Works (DPW) Starting this week, the Public Yard is also open on Saturdays for dropoff of Yard Waste and Recycling. More info: https://www.cityofmelrose.org/solid-waste-recycling Street sweeping will run from April 1 to early June in Melrose. Ward 5 Precinct 1 (West of the train tracks) is scheduled to be swept April 22 & 23, and Ward 5 Precinct 2 (East of the Train tracks) is scheduled to be swept April 29 & 30. It’s springtime, and you may be noticing broken branches, potholes, drainage/flooding issues, or other issues you think the Department of Public Works (DPW) should resolve. You can always call the City Yard at 781‐665‐0142, or you can enter a work order through egovlink online for these issues and many others listed on the page (there are 25 listed categories of addressable issue!) If you have any urgent issue after hours for DPW, such as a water main break or a traffic signal not functioning, you can call the Police Department at 781‐665‐1212, and they can get in touch with key members of DPW.
