2) I rejoined the Melrose Traffic Commission as a voting member. In March, we approved teacher extended parking durations near the Lincoln School, considered adjustments to parking restrictions on Pleasant Street across from Towne Estates, and approved new stop signs at the Porter and Rowe street intersection near the Melrose-Wakefield hospital. 3) I participated in a Traffic Safety Observation at the Lincoln School. We heard from school parents, crossing guards, Principal Patti, and members of the Melrose Pedestrian Bike Committee. They shared recent stories of both teachers and children being hit as well as safety challenges they deal with daily. West Wyoming Ave is unfortunately identified by the Boston Metropolitan Planning Organization as a high risk location for crashes, and ranked in the bottom 5% in the region for safety. In this neighborhood where over 70% of students walk to school, it’s important to understand and address the identified safety issues.
