Ward 5 and friends, I hope you’re all staying cool and enjoying the summer. My family is visiting the grandparents and extended family for a reunion this week, and having a great time with the kids. While we will get back to the budget in future newsletters, this newsletter is about some of the many fun things going on around Melrose. The Melrose Chamber of Commerce Annual Summer Stroll is this evening, Friday, July 25 from 6-9pm. Check out this free community event! This Sunday, July 27th from 3:30-6:30pm, check out the launch party for the Melrose Creature Quest at Hannah’s Brewery. I sponsored two of the sculptures by artists Michelle Ramadan of Meesh Pottery and John Pegoraro of Oddpegs Woodworking. These sculptures will be located around Melrose to increase public access to art and to lead people to explore more of their community. The two sculptures that I sponsored will be located in Ward 5 and reference local history and landmarks. I wish I could make it to the event; please let me know if you go and enjoy it!
Next Saturday, August 2nd there will be an Ell Pond Cleanup event from 9-noon to keep the pond free of invasive water chestnuts. This action helps support our beautiful birds and wildlife that people enjoy seeing around the pond.
The Lloyd Memorial Swimming Pool on Tremont Street is open 11:15am - 6:45pm from 6/21/2025 - 8/17/2025. This year there are new benches! I worked with DCR on this after a resident brought the lack of seating to my attention last year. Check out the pool on a hot day! The Melrose Chalk Walk will be held on Saturday, September 20th! I am seeking a Ward 5 artist to sponsor for this event. Here are more details; please let me know if you are interested or can recommend an artist in Ward 5.
