Hi all, Congratulations on a successful election in Melrose this past week. According to the Melrose Weekly News, one-third of Melrose voters participated in the election – not too bad for a Primary! I have several other updates for you. I’ll try to keep this email brief, but I am happy to go into more detail if you have questions.
Trash and Recycling Updates
Melrose’s current trash and recycling contract is ending in June. Recently, the final details of the replacement contract were confirmed – recycling will remain weekly, and the new containers will be the 64 gallon size. The city will supply new trash and recycling cans for each residence in the program. Unfortunately, fees will be approximately doubling since the last time they were negotiated in 2012. There are discounts available for seniors for the Trash Fee of up to 100%, based on your income level. There is also a 20% discount available for the Water and Sewer Fees for seniors based on your income level. Here are the current details about applying for the discounts. The Department of Public Works will share more details about the new trash and recycling program over the next few months. Resolution on Ceasefire in Gaza
There is a resolution calling for a Ceasefire in Gaza coming before the City Council this Monday the 11th. I recommend reading the text of the resolution here to understand what it includes. While this is a potentially divisive topic, I believe that the resolution as written includes many elements that all Melrosians can agree with. I hope that as a community we can all be respectful, listen to each other, and learn from each other as it is discussed and voted on.

These are one of the primary ways that the Mayor’s administration shares information.
